Habitat wins Crown Reserve Trust Manager’s Award
On Friday 10th Nov at Marina View in Newcastle over 200 people came together from across the state in this year’s NSW Government Regional Achievement and Community Awards sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank, Prime7 and Marina View. The gathering was addressed by the Minister for Lands and Forestry. We are proud to say that, Tilligerry Habitat Association won the Crown Reserve Trust Corporate Managers Award for the outstanding management of a Crown Reserve. This included a plaque and a cash prize.
In the face of competition from across the state and describing the work done by Tilligerry Habitat Association in the award ceremony they stated that … THA manages a nine hectare flora and fauna reserve with a range of scenic forest, scrub and wetland environments. Since 1993 their members and volunteers mission has been “conservation, rehabilitation, education and community”. The Trust works and consults with local Aboriginal bush regeneration teams and holds cultural burns to rejuvenate seeds in the soil. The area was also re-planted with a combination of larger plants and tube-stock. Among others, the site provides habitat for koalas, bandicoots and echidnas.
Thanks should go to Fran Corner for the putting forward the nomination and all the hard work she has put in as President managing the Habitat. We must also thank all the volunteers and workers at present and over all these years have made this happen and made Tilligerry Habitat what it is today.
