Tilligerry Peninsula cleans up at awards

THE Tilligerry Peninsula shone at the recent Tidy Towns awards.

The annual competition saw Port Stephens take out seven awards, with the presentation ceremony held in Nundle between November 7 and 9.

The Tilligerry Habitat won a highly commended in the energy efficiency category, while two residents, Nathan Riley and Connie Hayes, were acknowledged in the young legends category.

One of the big awards came from the Office of Environment and Heritage Conservation, with the Tilligerry Peninsula Envirotrust receiving a mention for its Improving our Wildlife Corridors program.

“We at Tilligerry Peninsula have remained faithful to putting together an annual program of town improvements across our community . . . with contributions from many individuals and groups,” Fran Corner from Tilligerry Tidy Towns Committee said.

Other winners were Tailor Made Fish Farms in the sustainable business category, Grahamstown Public School for its garden education program and Raymond Terrace’s waste management plan.
